Recorded by Jeff Lovejoy at Blackbox Studios, mastered by Matthew Gray, performed by Archdale in April 2019.
About the single…
I wrote ‘Just A Phase’ back in 2018 when a close friend of mine was going through a really difficult breakup although it definitely applies to many of life’s challenges.
Whilst everything may seem like the end of the world in the moment it doesn’t stay that way forever. In time we weather the storm, change as individuals and what remains is a stronger and more resilient version of ourselves.
The song also highlights something else that often happens with breakups. We eventually get to the point where we feel like we’ve moved on and put it all behind us only to be reminded by something small and have all those feelings of loss crash down on us again.
This was the first song that I had professionally recorded, mixed and mastered with my own band, Archdale, prior to our own break up in 2020.
‘Just A Phase’ Lyrics
Verse 1:
I see your hurt I see your pain,
I see you fighting to hold onto rain.
Storms will come to test your will,
With winds and rain enough to kill.
Verse 2:
It’s easy to think the storm has passed,
When the eye the calm can seem so vast.
You stop and you lower your guard,
And then it hits you now twice as hard.
Chorus:
My friend it’s just a phase
My friend it’s just another face
My friend it’s just a phase
Verse 3:
You’re not just what’s left from the storm,
Not coerced into your final form.
Take the shape of what endures,
A pretty face with new contours.
Chorus:
My friend it’s just a phase
My friend it’s just another face
My friend it’s just a phase
Outro:
My friend it’s just a phase
My friend it’s just another face
My friend it’s just a phase
My friend it's just a phase
